Group Homes

ChildServ's Group Homes offer a therapeutic environment within the communities of Downers Grove, Lisle and Naperville for adolescents who are in need of placement outside their family homes. The Downers Grove and Naperville homes serve adolescent females and the Lisle home serves adolescent males. Each home has six residents.

2-10 hours/week (flexible)

Description of Service Learner Role
There are four available projects at ChildServ’s Group Homes:

Mentor/Tutor/Activity Assistant
o Serve as a mentor, providing adolescents who reside in the group homes with positive adult role models and individual attention
o Serve as a tutor, assisting the adolescents with homework
o Provide the adolescents with transportation—e.g., doctors’ appointment, therapy, etc.
o Assist the staff at the group homes with various activities for adolescents—e.g., art projects, scrapbooks, sports, movie night, etc.
o Assist the staff at the group homes with workshops and educational presentations

Life Skills Assistant
o Work with the life skills coordinator to develop and present life skills topics for evening meetings in the group homes
o Work with an assigned adolescent to help her/him learn various life skills—e.g. how to apply to college and how to budget money, etc.
o Assist the staff with developing and facilitating workshops related to life and study skills

Behavior Analysis Assistant (ABA students only)
o Assist with developing simple behavior plans for adolescents in the group homes
o Assist with conducting behavior analyses

Meal Preparers/Office Assistant
o Assist the staff at the group homes with various everyday activities such as meal preparation and cleaning
o Assist with various office responsibilities at the group home administrative office in Naperville

Organization Requirements
• TB test and background check
• Nine-month commitment
• Attend monthly on-campus service learning seminars
