The Center for Multicultural and Diversity Studies (CMDS) launched the Multicultural Mentoring Program in August 2006.
Interested incoming students are matched with current students from the same program. They are encouraged to participate in social activities, training opportunities, e-mail correspondence, monthly meetings, and brown bag lunches. Current students also can participate in the program by being matched with a faculty member.
The main goal of the program is not meant to replace or provide additional academic advising of students, but rather the program will focus on multicultural issues related to addressing individual, racial, ethnic, and other cultural differences. It will also help incoming students learn from fellow students who have experienced registration, pratica work, and other areas related to Chicago School campus life.
Additionally the center hopes that the program will:
- Help students connect and network within the school;
- Foster better communication between staff, faculty, and students;
- Promote diversity and engagement in multicultural issues;
- Provide faculty with professional development and learning opportunities that contributes to the climate of diversity at The Chicago School.
Students and faculty interested in participating in the Multicultural Mentoring Program should contact the center at 312.329.6660, diversity@thechicagoschool.edu, or visit room 418.
